January 2010
I just got off the phone with Andrew WK
I love the fact that this happened.

I’m not kidding. Here’s proof. The call was real, I answered.
I thanked him for coming to town back in June, and told him I took photos. He asked if there was an address for the photos I put up- when I told him the flickr handle, he knew who Douglas Dollars was and thanked me. Apparently my photos are likely in a book of sheet music that he’s mailing...
It’s cold here and these celibate skies are depressing. There is a flat...
– Zelda Fitzgerald, in a letter to Scott in December of 1931

Her printed works are no match for the letters she sent to him. The worst part of this book is knowing that his letters to her quite literally died in the fire that claimed her.
No one likes to hear about other people's dreams
But listen to this.
Last night I had a dream about a baby who was waving to me from her high chair in a restaurant, and she was wearing elaborate rings with lots of stones (one on each hand).
I then discussed said baby with my (dead) mom, who had lost a lot of weight.
As dream babies, baby jewelry, and your mom’s post death diet don’t seem to show up on those dream symbol websites,...
extraface asked: What's the last thing you baked, and please rate its success. Recommended?
Hangin' on the telephone (and computer)
After being worn down by Dave (a little after the fact, at least) and inspired by Gavin, I’m enabling two new ways to put your thoughts in me.
The Ask Me Anything link on the right will take you to a lovely little screen that will allow you to, uh, ask me things. You can ask anonymously, or you can do the opposite of that.
The Call Me button will, um, call me. Click it, enter your name and...
I wondered why I wanted to go to bed at 5PM
[this is bad]

Realising that I’m returning to work after this weekend, that my three week vacation will be finished, I’m sure bummed out.

Well, here’s something brilliant by David Cole.
This kind of thinking might just make me read better.
Alright.
Dave Holmes just blew my mind right out of the water with the following two paragraphs that I hope he won’t mind me pulling out of his longer piece posted this morning:

Just as Peter Mayle made me want to dig out my old French textbooks and eat a stick of butter, Elizabeth Gilbert makes me want to go to town on a Rosetta Stone Deluxe Italian package*. She gets, as...

Employment Day 1
I woke up at 5:30.
I have nothing further to say.
Non Employment, Night 3, Days 4-6
Night 3
Bethesda: friends, beers, bubble bombs and good times! As this series of non-employment day entries is already more personal than I like to get, I’ll just add proverbial insult to proverbial injury and state that I have the best friends ever in LIFE, and if you think your friends are better you’re wrong.
Day 4
Field trip day! I went to Philly, joined by three friends...

Non Employment, Day 3
On deck for today:
Signing papers for the new job
Watching Public Enemies
Making another dent in the book I’m reading
Getting things together for macabre Philly field trip (Mütter Museum and Body Worlds) tomorrow with Max Funsters and respective SOs
Is this an exciting vacation or what?! I am SURE it’s great reading for you guys.
Non Employment, Day 2
On deck for today: Phone call to my project manager, Public Enemies, Shut Up and Sing (which I don’t even remember putting in my queue but it arrived the other day nonetheless), bed making, the putting away of laundry, a post on Your Parting Shot, and maybe even the gym.
Maybe.
In lieu of my writing anything entertaining today, check out the shot glasses I just bought:
Non Employment, Day 1
Yesterday I said goodbye to my employer of the last 8 years. Tuesday I report to my new employer’s regional office for my orientation.
Today I had a cocktail at 3 while watching terrible movies I got from the Redbox and started a couple of loads of laundry.
Tomorrow? Who knows.

Nintendo Wii to Add Netflix Service for Streaming Video (NYT)
The article is mostly about other consoles and about the Netflix service, and a little bit about the Wii.
Don’t get SUPER excited about this news - if you have an HDTV you’re going to be out of luck for HD video as the Wii can’t handle it. You can rock some streaming (while using a “software disc” that...
NYT's Interactive Netflix Map
Religulous must have been released on some sort of disc that only plays inside the Beltway.
Wondering why my brain comes alive NOW.

Right before midnight.
The hours of possibilities without restrictions from the world exist between midnight and 2 AM.
This afternoon I had a really good five minute span of dirty joke composition that I could not share because I was using a work computer. One of these days, all of our creativity will sync with all of our truly free time.
Craxworthy: Rules for My Unborn Son
If you didn’t start reading Walker Lamond’s Tumblr 1001 Rules for My Unborn Son back before there were 400+ entries on it, here’s your chance to make up for it.
This is a seriously yellow book with a pair of serious statements - rules are not always the enemy, and be a gentleman. To that end, Mr. Lamond throws down rules like “You don’t get to choose your own...
