Virgin Free Fest 2009 was on my birthday. I was right at the beginning of my love affair with The Hold Steady, which had started earlier that spring with Chris Bowman’s interview with Craig and Tad on The Sound of Young America, then was cemented during a drive down the mountain with Mike to pick up a latecomer to MaxFunCon.
Once the band took the stage, Craig resplendent in a plaid button down and huge watch, my friend Eddie remarked “He looks like a math teacher.” And the only thing I could think to say was “If math was anything like this guy’s lyrics, I would have multiple degrees.”
With the right person this is amazing. With the wrong person it’s a very long nightmare.

Movie Trailer of the Day: Mumblecore vets Jay and Mark Duplass’s latest indie circuit entry Jeff Who Lives at Home gets its first official trailer.
Starring Jason Segel, Judy Greer, Ed Helms, and Susan Sarandon, the film is set to open in select theaters March 16th.
