Metro working out deal with Google

This bit of awesomeness from Greater Greater Washington is amazing news! If you try to get directions using public transportation around here that aren’t by car or foot/bike, you get something that looks like this:

This is me trying to get from the general area of my house to Bohemian Caverns.

Other options include walking directions and driving directions. Occasionally, if you’re looking for a destination in just the right place, you’ll get the options of MARC or VRE trains, or randomly, local (not Metro) bus service.

For the record, I would take the red line to Fort Totten, transfer to a green/yellow train, get off at U Street and walk a block and a half. Grand total for the whole trip: five stops plus 4 blocks of walking, no parking, and no traffic.

BUT, I already know that route. HOWEVER, there are plenty that I don’t know. And after seeing how well New York’s transit system was tied in with GMaps, I died a little inside when I got home and had to use the Ride Guide and GMaps separately to get myself somewhere.
