extraface asked: What's the last thing you baked, and please rate its success. Recommended?
After my cookie baking binge in November, I got so sick of baking that I haven’t baked anything that wasn’t a throw together (sausage balls, quick muffins) since. I feel like binge is probably the best word for it, too, in the most bulimic sense of things- easily 100 dozen cookies (6 types, some of them doubled) plus fudge and birds’ nests, and afterwards I couldn’t look at a cookie for weeks. Even the Girl Scout cookies I got went straight to the freezer (with the leftover homemade cookies).
- Chocolate crinkles (failure, too dry and too much spreading, would not make that particular recipe again)
- Lemon bars (always a success)
- Hello Dollies (or 7 Layer Bars, or Magic Cookie Bars) (again, always a success)
- Gingerbread people (total success, soft and spicy, just a little muted in flavor and froze up and defrosted wonderfully)
- Sugar cookies (pretty fine, I only make them to decorate and then use the cookie as a vehicle for eating the accoutrement)
- Oatmeal chocolate chip with toffee and dried cherries (success of the entire Thanksgiving evening, dessert portion)
Recipes on request, of course.
Edit! I am not convinced that I made “easily 100 dozen” cookies any more than I’m sure the rest of you are. I was probably thinking either 10 dozen or 100 cookies. It definitely was not 1200 cookies.
