Notable Christmas dinners of the past

Christmas burritos

Chicken divan, which, thanks to my family’s record-setting alcohol consumption, is now and will forever be known as “chicken in the van”

Stuffed peppers

Honey Baked Ham, which my aunt hated and the next year demanded:

Ham from Costco, which I hated and to get back at my aunt served:

Honey Baked Ham at the next year’s dinner.

One year, dinner was hors d’oeuvres and side dishes with an accent of turkey - no one at my aunt’s house turned the oven down before going to Christmas Eve mass, and as everyone gathered at her house, we noticed smoke coming out of the kitchen window. Breaking and entering ensued. Because it was the second turkey in the oven, the 17 of us picked at the first bird and we still laugh at the charred one today.
