And now we come to THEMATICALLY-SIMILAR MY YEAR OF BOOK SHOWDOWN 2! Wherein we seek the answer to humanity’s oldest question: is having sex better than not having sex? I have opinions on this matter, but I must put them aside as I read:

“Chastened,” Hephzibah Anderson’s account of her year without sex (despite being named HEPHZIBAH, and

“365 Nights,” Charla Muller’s story of having sex every night for a year (with her husband, I think).

Starting with “Chastened.” It’s called delaying my gratification. Grab a loved one, keep him/her at a safe and respectful distance, and join me.

I love how thrilled Dave Holmes looks in this photo.

fuckyeahhotcomedians:

Pretty much my favorite movie ever.

One time I saw Catherine O’Hara at a Starbucks in Silver Spring. She knew I recognized her, and I knew that she knew, and we just shared a nod and smile and were on our respective ways. That was the best commute ever.

I love to travel

I love to get out of Washington, and I love seeing people I don’t get to see on a regular basis. I love flying, I love hotels, I love putting on my “out of office” messages (any time I get to use the phrase “out of pocket” is a bonus, regardless of whether or not I’ll have access to wifi or voicemail).

The sick, sad truth of it all, though, is that what I love almost as much as any of those things is making the packing list. It doesn’t matter if I’m taking a week on my beloved North Carolina coast, a long weekend in Vegas, or a work related jaunt to a client site, one of the most joyous and gleefully torturous parts of traveling is deciding what I’m going to need to make it though my excursion in a manner befitting what I imagine the manner of myself to be.

I’m in the process of planning for two trips. I’m in HEAVEN.

Yeech.
Author: F. Scott Fitzgerald

“It grieves me deeply that we Americans should take as our classic a book that is no more than a lengthy description of the doings of fops.”

From one-star Amazon.com reviews of classic novels

(I’m going to try to use the phrase “doings of fops” in at least three work emails today.)

Apparently that reviewer would rather have a lengthy description of the doings of homelesses or farmers or Draculas or Civil War-ers or pioneers as our classic. What else is a book but the descriptions of doings? I think that review is a fopist.

f-22:

Five SECOND boyfriends are totally AWESOME.

While at the National Museum of American History this past Saturday, a handsome man walked past me and made eye contact, but kept going. A couple of minutes later, he walked past me again going the other way. In true, awkward Jenny Craxworth fashion I was talking to my companions, red faced and sweaty from having walked the entire length of the National Mall to get to the museum and was in the process of tying my hair up (this weekend’s humidity has given me a semi-permanent halo of frizzy baby hair and flyaways), so my elbows were in the air trying to tame that mess and my glasses were hanging from the neck of my t-shirt. And in spite of the ridiculous appearance on my part, when we made eye contact he smiled at me. Despite the fact that I was in the middle of a sentence, mouth wide open and basically presenting myself, I smiled back. It was quick and cute, and I didn’t see him again in our hours in the museum, but it was such a sweet moment. I loved it.

Dave: what does this say? http://cgi.ebay.com/Nell-Carter-Gimme-Break-Hair-Star-Signed-Autograph-/220339248523?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item334d3e1d8b

Dave: what does this say? http://cgi.ebay.com/Nell-Carter-Gimme-Break-Hair-Star-Signed-Autograph-/220339248523?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item334d3e1d8b
